Symphony of Soul is an Austin-based charity that provides uplifting, live “musical medicine for the soul” to Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients.
- Thanks to a generous grant from the St. David’s Foundation, Symphony of Soul is collaborating with the Dell Medical School to conduct research on the effects of live music on the memory impaired.
- Since it all began 18 years ago, Symphony of Soul has served 50,000 people in more than 65 Central Texas care centers, including abused children and battered women, homeless families, and people who are coping with cancer, Alzheimer’s, drug & alcohol addiction, mental illness, developmental disabilities, homelessness and other challenges. However, this year, thanks to this wonderful opportunity with the St. David’s Foundation and the Dell Medical School, we have narrowed our focus to serving Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients only.
- We have carefully vetted the 160 professional touring and recording artists who serve on our roster. Our diverse musicians provide a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, blues, folk, rock and more. Studies show that, even though Austin prides itself on being “the live music capital of the world,” our musicians are living at the poverty level. In the last 10 years, Symphony of Soul has proudly provided more than half a million dollars in financial support to the Austin-area musicians serving on its roster.
- When you give to Symphony of Soul, you can trust that your dollars will provide uplifting music to a large cross-section of people in our society who need the hope and comfort that musical medicine provides.
